"Me Talk Pretty One Day"

You might be familiar with that title as it's the title of a fantastic David Sedaris book.  Regardless of what the book is about, I just love how grammatically incorrect it is, and how perfectly it relates to this.

A couple months ago I wrote about how you need to be more effective while writing because people are so inundated with words, images, stories, articles, and posts.  Basically the gist was you have to kind of always perform to gain the attention of an audience you're trying to attract in order to compete with those doing the same.  Now, I want to update that thought to be more generic.

Simply put: You absolutely must be a good writer at all times.

My thought in my previous post was intended for bloggers, job seekers writing cover letters, and so on and so forth.  However, the reason I am amending that thought here is because in the last few months as I have gone deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole of social media marketing, I have come to realize how important a succinct writer is to an organization.   Thoughts must be clear, well planned out, and to the point in order to build a company's awareness, brand, and online persona.

It goes beyond working for a company.

When you're out there chatting on Linked In, Brazen Careerist, or any other niche sites with groups discussions, there's no room for slacking.   First there are recruiters out there that are looking to potentially let you in on a new job opportunity.  Second there are also people that are looking to network with you (and you never know when your network will open you up to something in the future).  Lastly, there are people out there that you just don't want to think that you're an idiot.  I've posted a few things in various groups and have gotten nothing back but dribble.

Incomplete sentences, lack of punctuation, and incoherent ideas do not make friends.

A Few Things to Remember
No text speak. "im v. excited abt this idea!!!"  is not exactly a quality comment or something that demonstrates you're an intelligent human being.

Think before you type.   IF you read something that infuriates you, don't immediately fire back a shot.  Sit for a bit and calm down before you call someone out on something.  No need to use the public internet space as a place for you to argue.

No one says you have to write an essay to perfectly express your thoughts, but if you read your comment back to yourself and the correct spelling and grammar just isn't there - you miiiight want to rewrite whatever it is that you're getting it.  If you don't understand it, the intended recipient won't either.

So, be on your best writing behavior kids.
